RE: Suggestions for type of oil-new truck

The owners manual will give you recommendations on oil. Till it has around 10,000 miles on it I'd recommend staying away from synthetics. Give it a chance to break in.

RE: Sprinter-damage

Either have dealer replace the trailer or have them rip the entire top off and replace the bowed or broken joists then rebuild the roof.

RE: Remote Storage

Stick some velcro on them and the opposite piece somewhere on the tv etc. Then keep them with the appliance they control.

RE: Axle Alignment Question

So how do they align axles on a fifth wheel when the brackets are welded to the frame and the springs are bolted to the brackets? There is no adjustment unless you cut off a bracket and re-weld it.

RE: Tire Swap

It should not make any difference. If it truly requires LR G tires they sold it in an unsafe condition. If you were to have had an accident and someone got hurt they would be liable for letting it off the lot like that. Take it back and tell them to fix it or explain why not.

RE: Want to use 2 Laptops

Probably cheaper to go satellite and run a wireless router than to buy 2 Verizon air cards.

RE: Diesel Newbie - Inspecting Oil

Cummins diesel oil is black in the first block after an oil change. It is mostly carbon -- soot from combustion and harmless to a point. Oil analysis is available generally via mail order. Amsoil has an affordable testing program. But if you change the oil at recommended intervals and use appropriate oil it should not be necessary. People who run synthetics and extend their change intervals benefit the greatist from testing. Otherwise its just a waste of money.

RE: surge guard prefrence?

Its a pain in the a$$. We camp in MX and nightly as everyone turns off things the voltage goes up. We have a fiver so there is not really a lot of expensive sophisticated electronics to protect like a big bucks MH. Anyway, as the voltage rises noghtly the Surge Guard starts kicking off (BANG) and kicking back on (BANG). It has a huge relay inside. I can't remember the exact timing but it was generally just long enuf to start to drop off to sleep then BANG. Since complaining about anything in MX is pointless you deal with it. We chose to run a 110VAC electric heater outside to keep the voltage down. like a big resistor. Is comforting to have it there for the occasional problem but if the problem is continual its a pain. Most stuff in our rig can sustain the voltage without problem.

RE: Tire Wear Pattern-Tandem Axle TT (Pic's) Where to look next

So how many miles do you have on the tires?
You might check all the welds. I saw a few in the pics that looked marginal. Your trailer is not very heavy so you're not terribly likely to break them off like I did but good idea to check. Only reason I can fathom for your tire wear is the axle is slightly out of wack. Its no big deal, just rotate the tires annually. You have 4-5 years on these, they are due for replacement anyway -- no big loss.

RE: SurgeGuard Tripping Out?

Get a plug in heater and run it outside continuously to draw down the voltage. Either plug it into the pedistal outlet or your outside outlet.

RE: Brakes are locked

It could be that the parking brake cable is sticky which prevents the parking brake shoes from completely releasing. Never park for extended periods with parking brake on.

RE: Replacing carpet with laminate flooring

You need to make sure whoever does it knows how to deal with your slides. It can be tricky to transition the slide edge and it can be tricky to make sure the slide still works. I replaced all the carpet in the main area in my 2 slide fiver this summer with Pergo. I did not do the actual slides because they really don't get that much wear and you need that carpet flap to hide the edge of the slide and the stuff under it. I seriously doubt you could get anyone to do it for $1.50 a foot in an RV. Its a lot of work, trust me.

RE: Prodigy and electric hydraulic brakes ?

I have a Prodigy controller on my truck and I have Kodiak electric hydraulic disk brakes on my fifth wheel. It works just fine -- in fact I love the setup. I have electric brakes on my car hauler and also it works just fine.

RE: Mexican Diesel Fuel?

I'll take all the Mexican Diesel I can buy at 2.20/gallon. My 2006 Dodge 5.9 CTD runs just fine on it. Thats why I didn't want one of the new 6.7 Diesels.

RE: 220 volt from 110 vac?

"............... I suppose a guy could buy a gasoline powered generator, and replace the gasoline engine with a 110V motor. It seems doable if the motor speed provided the correct input, i.e. constant speed motor regardless of load ......."
Ain't no such thing as free energy. I believe that's what you are asking about if I interpret this correctly.
